Prolabs To Showcase Breadth Of Low Power Solutions To Combat Brandwidth Rise At Data Centre World London

ProLabs to showcase breadth of low-power solutions to combat bandwidth rise at Data Centre World London 2018

Event marks the European launch of its new energy saving transponder

South Cerney, UK. 12 March 2018: Leading optical transceiver specialist ProLabs will showcase its market leading capabilities for monitoring power consumption in data centre environments at Data Centre World London 2018, taking place March 21-22.

Debuting its new 100G transponder to the European market, ProLabs will showcase the EON-121 Transponder product set, which stands out from similar offerings by boasting the lowest power consumption for a 100G transponder.

One of the smallest of its kind, the EON-121 signifies ProLabs transition into offering complete solutions to its customers, as 100G transponders are a new technology segment for the company. The transponder addresses the ever-increasing demand for connectivity and bandwidth requirements by virtue of it being a small form factor (thereby minimising costs associated with rack space in data centres) which can then be deployed close to the source of traffic.

“The launch of our new transponder demonstrates our ongoing commitment to partnering with our customers to really make the most of their infrastructure by enabling greater capacity over longer reaches,” said Caroline Green, Chief Operating Officer at ProLabs. “The EON-121 transponder provides flexibility with operational simplicity, and when combined with our full range of compatible transceivers, gives utmost control over infrastructure development to our customers at an affordable price, with no compromise to the quality of data transmission that they demand.”

The new transponder set comes after the successful launch of the company’s Green transceivers, which utilise new technologies resulting in 30% less power consumed than a typical transceiver, while offering the same great performance. Main benefits of the Green transceiver include the application of optical waveguide technology, which enables the user to achieve relevant efficiencies for customer applications.

The ProLabs 100G hybrid solution or Silicon Optical Bench (SiOB) is a free-space optical interconnect technology which utilises a silicon-based 45° micro-reflector to align the laser to the fibre medium, eliminating the need for the optical lens. This then reduces the optical path to less than 200 µm, leading to a 60% reduction in the optical power and resulting in less heat dissipation, and ultimately greater than 30% reduction in power consumption.

“Monitoring power consumption is vital for managing data centre environments, and at ProLabs we pride ourselves on being a specialist that is paving the way to make sure that consumption does not get out of control. Data Centre World is where many of our target audience head to, and our product offering is directly relevant to helping solve the issues that data centres face right now,” added Caroline.
